Island Roots Market Co-op
Nanaimo / Snuneymuxw (Snoo-nay-mowck)
Snuneymuxw (Snoo-nay-mowck) - Nanaimo is derived from the mispronunciation of Snuneymuxw (Snoo-nay-mowck), which means “gathering place of a great people.” in reference to the Snuneymuxw people and Nation.

Providing Nanaimo with year-round food security.
The Island Roots Market Co-Op is Nanaimo’s only year-round market, welcoming the community to Beban Park every Wednesday in the summer before moving indoors to the Centennial Building in the fall/winter.
This food-focused market is alive with local music, food, and retail as friends, families, and neighbours gather around common tables to visit and listen to live music. In addition to an abundance of fruits and vegetables, this market offers fresh seafood, poultry, eggs, hot food options, local wines, cheeses, coffees, and baked goods.
We would like to gratefully recognize and acknowledge that we live, learn, and work, on the unceded territories of the Snuneymuxw, Snaw-naw-as, and Stzuminus people.
This market participates in the BC Farmers' Market Nutrition Coupon Program.
