Esquimalt Farmers’ Market
Esquimalt / Es-whoy-malth
Es-whoy-malth - Esquimalt (pronounced Ess-KWY-malt) is an anglicized version of the Lekwungen word "es-whoy-malth," which means the place of gradually shoaling water.
The food-focused market committed to sustainability.
The Esquimalt Farmers’ Market leads by example when it comes to healthy living, local food, and community interaction. For more than 5 years this market has remained committed to healthy and local living through relationship building and environmental sustainability within their community.
This year-round market operates two markets in the summer, one in Esquimalt Memorial Park and another in Esquimalt Gorge Park, from April through September, before relocating to the Esquimalt Rec Centre for the remainder of the year. Thanks to the support of their community, the market organizers have been able to carefully select vendors aligned with their specific values. From fresh baked breads to farm-fresh produce, kids activities to food trucks, this remains one of Vancouver Island’s most vibrant farmers’ markets.
Winner of the 2020 BC Association of Farmers Markets Award for Best Farmers Market (large sized)
The Esquimalt Farmers Market operates on the land of the Lək̓ʷəŋən (Songhees) and Xwsepsum (Esquimalt) Nations. As a food-first farmers market, we acknowledge that many of the practices represented at the market are a result of ongoing forms of colonial dispossession and genocide. Recognizing these inherent connections to settler colonialism is critical to our work. As we continue to grow as an organization, we endeavor to strengthen our relationships and responsibilities to the peoples and nations of this place.
This market participates in the BC Farmers' Market Nutrition Coupon Program.
