Salmon Arm Community Market
Salmon Arm / Quaaout or Skwlax
Quaaout or Skwlax - Derived from the Skwlax te Secwepemculecw (Little Shuswap Lake Indian Band) name for their community, meaning "Black Bear" in Secwepemctsín.
Located on the southern shore of Shuswap Lake in the community of Canoe, this Friday market is the heartbeat of the area. A select number of between 5 and 15 vendors bring fresh eggs, meat, produce, fruit, wine, and locally made arts and crafts to sell.
Revitalizing home-based businesses and encouraging homemade products is the goal and philosophy behind this community-focused market. Popular stalls include a root vegetable farmer that’s been growing here since the 1940s and a local honey producer. Hot coffee and food service, live entertainment, fundraisers for close-to-Canoe causes, and fun contests are often organized as well.
The Salmon Arm Community Market acknowledges that it operates on the traditional and Unceded Territories of the Secwepemcul’ecw (Secwépemc) Peoples.
This market participates in the BC Farmers' Market Nutrition Coupon Program.
