Langley Community Farmers’ Market
The Langley Community Farmers Market is part of a tradition that spans continents, cultures and centuries. In 2008 a group of Langley-area farmers, agricultural experts, educators, food producers and retailers came together to form the Langley Community Farmers Market Society (LCFMS). They wanted to contribute to the economic viability of local farms, providing a venue – in Langley, not across the river in Vancouver – for direct interactions between vendors and customers and an opportunity to educate and raise awareness about agriculture, the local economy and the environment.
The LCFMS increases access to local food with it’s Food Recovery program, an addition to the Farmers’ Market Nutrition Coupon Program, directing donated food from vendors to local organizations for use in their programs. The market also fans the spark of entrepreneurism through its Young Entrepreneur Program, providing a market stall set-up for kids to sell their own ‘made’, ‘baked’, or ‘grown’ products at the market, and mentoring them with tips on how to succeed and build their confidence in a thriving direct sales market.
The LCFMS is an award winning farmers’ market and is recognized for its impact on the community, and for the efforts of their community partners with the Farmers’ Market Nutrition Coupon Program.
