You may recognize A Bread Affair due to their wildly popular storefront bakery in Vancouver’s Granville Island, or their wholesale location in Langley, but did you know that they started at Farmers’ Markets in Greater Vancouver? Tanya Belanger is the owner and baker behind the successful artisan bakery, having spent time in a former life as an entrepreneur behind a successful Ontario-based tech company. When she moved to Vancouver, she missed the wonderful bread she grew up with when spending time in Montreal for school. Tanya trained in California with Keith Giusto, a renowned artisan baker and fell in love with this unique style of baking.
A Bread Affair has been participating in their local Farmers’ Markets in metro Vancouver and the Lower Mainland for over a decade, and are known for their delicately crafted sourdough bread and tasty organic products made from local produce. A Bread Affair is the first certified Organic Artisan Bakery in BC and source grains from farmers in the Fraser Valley, apples from the Okanagan and blueberries from Bradner. Being part of the local agriculture is important for the team and connecting with local farmers to show off the best of what Vancouver and the surrounding areas have to offer in terms of fresh produce is central to the company’s core values.
Tanya is passionate about ensuring that quality ingredients are used in crafting their products, which is why A Bread Affair champions sustainability and environmental practices to ensure that no GMOs, chemicals or pesticides are used in the growing of their ingredients. They are truly local.
